Hi guys, as the title says, I am interested in a general pros and cons for each tank.

My friends and I are starting good ole Vanguard again and I am rolling a tank, as I do in most MMOs. I heard that the tanks where being balanced so I was interested in feedback from you players as to how that is going..? :)

Also, what strengths and weaknesses to the different tanks have in different situations as regards to AOE Hate, Single target tanking, ranged hate gen, etc...its been so long since I played, I have forgotten most of it.

My 2 friends will be rolling a Healer and a DPS to go with the tank. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards,
    N

Also, I forgot to mention, is there much difference stat wise in picking 'the wrong race' towards the end of the game...like would I lose a lot of tanking ability if I picked a goblin over a varajar for a Paladin for example...?

Not really being balanced to be honest, a few minor tweaks that is slowly helping the DK rise from the bottom of the pile.

If you search through the tank forum you would of found multiple posts about this exact topic.

Number One tank in Telon is a Pally, hands down.

Warrior for AE and Snap aggro.

DK for OT & DC debuff until more work is done on them :p (tongue in cheek)

I don't have any problems with DK any longer. I can't keep up with a Virt burning pally, but overall a DK is a very good tank. Don't have the single target Aggro of a Paladin or the AE of a Warrior but are solid in both areas.

Honestly, for the group/small group work you are talking about, there is no bad choice among the three tanks. All the "discussions" you see here along the DK vs. Pally vs. Warrior line have more to do with raiding, where multiple tanks will be competing for aggro. In a group, any of the tanks will do an excellent job if the person playing them learns their class and plays well. Yes, there are differences, but in the end, the differences can be negated by good group play.

I play all 3 classes in groups and have no problem holding aggro with any of them, as long as the group plays together as a team. No tank will hold aggro off of a hot-shot DPS who plays with one hand on the keyboard and the other hand in their pocket.

Honestly, choose the tank that appeals to you most, and no matter which one you choose, you can go into a group with confidence that you can do your job just fine, as long as everyone is playing as a team.

You might go to www.thetelonproject.com and read through the skills of each class to see which appeals to you most.

The races aren't critical, just bear in mind you're picking between things like 100% damage prevention versus group energy redistribution. The thing that got me about levelling a dk was so much crowd control. I want to use scythe of doom, my only ae taunt is a melee attack, but only one mob beside me is awake. Dk's have lifetaps, spells, and get a pet at 50. By comparison I found a warrior to be a more realistic, literal military figure. Shouts, commands, slew of fast attacks. Their ae taunt doesn't have to hit anything. It has a much faster feel, going between the two is like going from a motorcycle to a tractor. Can't say either one is better, it's just different ways of doing the same thing. Well, dk solos a lot better, but that's not what we're talking about. For a static group, you'll be "the tank" no matter what you pick.

With regards to race. At end game, strength for instance is fairly easy to cap no matter what race you pick. Con is a lot harder to do and picking a human race or one that automatically puts points in con can help.

Well for a warrior if you pick qalian human, you'll get 10 second invulnerability racial, which is very nice to have. Less so for DK since they get invulnerabity spell, and even less so for PAL since they get either2 or 3. Orcs and dwarves also have cool racials (don't remember off hand) and tank stats. While if you pick high elf for example, you'll just get a small addition to your mana pool - hardly very useful.

Races in VG don't matter so much for most classes but tanks are an exception in my opinion!

Orcs get Fury of Ghalnn racial--for 7 seconds you get +15% damage, -40% endurance cost, and all damage done is returned to you as healing. Getting in a couple of good hits can mean a full health bar.

Don't count out an extra invuln for DKs though--it is nice, especially at higher levels when you run into a couple of energy-draining mobs. DK's Aphotic Shield--their invuln--costs energy to cast. An Epic Qalithari DK would have 3 invulns, two of which can be used without energy, putting them on a par with the king of invulns, the Pally.
