Shaman Race Decision

    Hey All,

I am creating a Shaman this evening and am having a hard time deciding upon the race.

I am planning on playing a Bear Shaman and look forward to raiding casually/daily. I know my main role will be as a healer so I want to prepare the best for that.

I read somewhere that VIT is the best healing stat and that Goblins end up with the highest VIT. But I really don't like the look of the Goblins.

I also heard that at max level in raids most healers should max out in VIT so it doesn't matter if you are a Goblin. Is that true? If it's not true, then how much benefit do you get from the extra VIT of a Goblin vs say a Varanthi Shaman? Will the healing effectiveness be noticeable or does it not really matter?

Keep in mind my goal is to raid and be a great healer on the raids.

Thanks for the help in advance!

I am a Varanjar Shaman with top end raid gear and i am not maxed on Vitality.

Vitality basically equals how much you heal for - the more vit you have up to the cap (at present, devs are speaking of tweaking stats soon) the higher your heals will be.

That being said, you can also put forward the argument that a lot of your heal is overhealing anyway, and therefore somewhat wasted for a large portion of your raiding time. In Vanguard the main tank can take a large amount of damage in a very short space of time, and as such you need to be proactively healing even when the tank is at 100% health. In such circumstances it might be better for you have to have a larger pool of energy, although with the energy and energy regen buffs in game currently this is somewhat negated except on very healer intensive fights.

Also, as a varanjar i get a bonus to mitigation which makes me a little bit better to withstand aoe's etc. As a bear i'd definitely go with Varanjar or lesser giant.

Also, if you feel you have made the wrong decision on race, it is not irrevocable. There are class change items in the station shop. I understand this may hurt for those wanting to role play - but it is an option for others.
