Hello, Started the 14 day trial a couple of days ago and am really enjoying it. The download for the trial island was only a gig or so, so I was able to get started quickly. Now since they have changed the launcher it has decided to download the full game and it won't let me play unless I finish the download. It's a huge download. I had a hard enough time trying to figure out that you had to change a setting in the launcher to "trial" when I downloaded it a couple of days ago. Now there is no trial option setting. Any advice on how I can stop the download to play as I was a couple of hours ago? Thanks
ok doesn't look as though anyone will be able to help me with this problem. I pity anyone that is currently trying to download the small trial install that has now turned into a 15 gig download. I can't play so I now certainly won't be paying for the full game. What a shame as I was really enjoying it.
I really hate it when SOE does stuff that screws up things for Vanguard players. The new "launcher" has been an utter disaster for many of us. Once they sort it out, dont let it deter you from playing the best game around. I am also stuck not being able to play because of launcher issues pending a TSR response. Hope to see you back in game soon
Still looks like if you want to play the trial for this game you have to download the whole client (almost 20gigs) before you can start, even though before the new launcher, the download for the newbie isle was only 2 gig or so. A big thanks to Joshua TSR (or any other support person) for ignoring my various questions for help about this issue. I guess maybe I posted in the wrong forum or something. Can't do much but just uninstall the game now as I really don't want to download almost 15 gigs more of data before I decide to resub or not.
Unfortunately a full installation of the game is required, even for trial players, at this time. If you are encountering any issues when trying to get the new launcher to work, go to your Vanguard Directory and locate the launchpad.exe file then delete it. Once this is done download and run the following launcher: http://launch.soe.com/app/installer...guard_setup.exe When prompted, select Reinstall/Repair and let the program run. Once it has finished try accessing the game once again. In the case that it tries to re-install the game you will want to stop the launcher, re-run the set up file, select Install a New Copy, and install it to your current Vanguard directory. This will overwrite the corrupt launcher and resolve your issue.

It's shame that just 3 days ago I was enjoying the trial after only having to download a couple of gig and then suddenly I'm forced to download almost 18 gig more to finish the trial. This doesn't make any sense. Hopefully this will be addressed in future. I hope SOE also realise that they are still advertising the Vanguard trial as being a "small downloadable client for easy access". This is taken from the website. Unfortunetly I can't play now as I am over my internet data cap for the month. Will have to make another account and resart the trial next month in order to decide if I want to keep playing or not. In a time where there are lots of good MMOs, I really do want to have few day's trail before I commit to a monthly fee.
I have the same problem (sorry for "hijacking" this thread but I always try to avoid doubles). Just registered and checked the old launchpad is working (but to start Vanguard trial the next days). Now I have a new launchpad, but i can change the game version. Possible choices are "US", "EU" and "Test". Changing to "Test" results in a much smaller download than "EU" or "US" tries to do. But what will it mean for me if I choose to play the full game?! The "US" and "EU" version tries to download 19,480 MB - for a guy like me having only 1 Mbit max speed that would result in a 48+ hours download (if on full speed). So I have some questions: 1. Is there any other possibility for downloading, a friend can do for me (http, ftp, ... - I am not willing to use Steam) ? 2. Does the download consist any localization (for me: german) ? 3. Is there any difference between "EU" and "US" version, I know I have to play on server "Telon" (english is no problem at all) ? Thank You for any help. Greetings, Green Gremin
you really have no option other than to choose US (the european server is essentially empty as people have transferred over). The download will take a very long time at your download speed, but it may go faster if it is simply updating the trial version with full load rather than starting from scratch. good luck to you.
You may be able to have a friend download the game for you and transfer the downloaded game directory to your system via external HDD. While it is not a supported method of obtaining the game, I have done so personally with out any issues. The launcher will give you the option to execute the game in German by changing the game version through the Vanguard launcher. We currently have a US and EU server for the game, but as leavwiz pointed out the majority of the game's players currently reside on the US Telon server.
