Progression Question

Discussion in 'Protective Fighters' started by TheresaScorned, Mar 29, 2013.

  1. While servers are down. I have a few questions about progression.

My warrior is 48 and i'm doing RI, NN, Mnalus...and i'm wanting to do Xenn and just exping in ToT areas.

What are the next places I should be focusing on when I hit 50? I've seen people talk about Magi Hold, APW, PoTA and OT but i'm not sure what level range those are or what the progression is. What should I be shooting for first and what is the dungeon/ raid progression post 50.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Theresa

although you can start your POTA work at 50, unless you have well geared friends to help you along, you are better off heading to magi hold for both solo and group content. The xp is relatively small for the level of the mobs, but the quest lines give some nice items and eventually open up the high end targets for you.

Magi Hold have solo and group parts, APW is pure raid, PoTA group and raid, OT mostly group. SoD is group, ToT is partly solo partly group.

If you want to start raiding you need at least full swamp armor or same level gear from some other place. For tanks gear is everything.

  4. Thanks Leavwiz, I will check out Magi Hold asap. I just looked it up and I like the idea of going back home (kojan). =)

BoD is or at least was raid. IoG partly group with some raids I think. CoB hard group with raids coming at some point.

  6. Aye, I was working my behind off for itch gear and got a couple pieces completed (arms, boots, gloves..and one more) and have all the unfinished armors- I just was having problems with the Mnalus components and...the cost of the crafted parts.

However, at 48 I was able to find on the brokers the kdq stuff for really cheap and am wearing a mix of that and Itch armors now with some level 48 crafted weapons. I'm feeling pretty good with the kdq stuff but would love to finish the swamp armors its really an issue of enough guildies on and or groups who wana do Mnalus hehe.

Anyways, it looks like I got a lot of stuff ahead of me and lots to do =)

    Thanks for all the info!

Better get that gear before APW pugs or your career there is going to be buff, splat, rez, rebuff, splat, rez, rebuff ad infinitum.
  8. I read somewhere that "most" tanks just skip swamp armors these days and go straight to KDQ or crafted or whatever the next tier is? I was doing swamp armors because I never finished them (with my other toons) during my days when the game was released, and I just wanted to do them.

My shammy is same level and is full earth-enriched or whatever its called from kdq drops and her gear is equal to or better than the swamp healer gear. However, the swamp gear has a lot more armor for tanks than anything else i've seen so that's why i've stuck to grinding them out for so long.

However, now you are making me think I need swamp armor to progress. So, I should stick it out and finish them I guess...darn hehe

I did not say it has to be swamp. I said that it has to be equal or better. Full faction is probably good enough too for example.

Yeah, what Leav said about Magi Hold. Get your MH done so you will be ready for the new OT dungeon that Rahtiz just announced--to level 52-55, with some gear that will help doing PotA entry/trials too.

It sounds weird that people in the 40s work on CW armor, but then would skip swamp. Swamp armor is good. City armor is around the same. PotA tier 1 is inferior to swamp. You may find a couple useful pieces around RI or something, Zosun's armor in MH isn't bad, but it comes down to a piece by piece basis of what you can get. Swamp would definitely be worth the try in that range, especially some of the fully upgraded pieces. It's to make you viable in APW which would be the next thing. As a tank it's usually not feasible to skip any armor upgrades. Most other classes can get carried through some encounters they're not on par with, but when my tank reaches its limit, I usually don't try again until getting a couple new things. Concurrent to APW, you can try some of the easier overlands like Jagund; also, in the OT knights, Akande has a nice chest piece. BoD and Virak are probably a couple levels higher, for PotA and CoB, 55 for a tank.

I think it depends on how fast you are levelling. If you are planning to do APW at level 50 and experience the dungeon at that level then I would suggest a minimum of swamp armour to start. If however, you plan to get from level 50 to 55 in a week then being level 55 in APW with poor gear is quite survivable.

That could be so, and the methods are there to do it but, it isn't really progression, that's a 55 toon going into a lvl 48 dungeon. Quick comparison of kdq stuff against itchy armor, I see kdq bracers, 209 armor, 7 con, etherence & primal slots; itchy ones 251 armor, 14 con, 50 mitigation. For kdq boots, 302 armor, 9 con, slots, itchy ones are 334 armor, 12 con, 68 mitigation. And on the gloves, kdq ones at 269 armor, 8 con, with slots, compared to (upgraded) itchy has 362 armor, 16 con, and 54 mitigation. So I don't think kdq is the next step past swamp, for tanks. No shaman at that level to compare, but on a dps caster glove, virtually identical except 22 sdf on the sand covered and 118 accuracy on gorg ones. But on just three plate armor pieces swamp already gives you almost 180 armor and mitigation more than things you can easily buy at level 46 or so, then plus a clicky if you take it that far. Anyway, progression isn't linear, whether you have someone power level you, or hit APW in what you have, maybe you lose all the one-ore items and then get something that uses 2 or 3, maybe get some side grades where one item is better versus spells, prior to a fully upgraded swamp piece, who knows?
