Blue screen

  1. I keep getting the dreaded blue screen after 1-3 hours of playing VG. my system has to dump all mem.

My system is as follows....I7, 8gig's ddr3, geforce 480 GTX ssc
If theres a way to stop this from occuring let me no..=)
  2. This can be related to a very serious hardware related issue, which would be very difficult to address with out being able to take a closer look at your system. In order for this issue to be looked into further please open a support ticket with us and include your dxdiag and msinfo files for further review.
  3. using a creative audio card by any chance?
If not id look into system stability in general, run a couple of hours of memtest, http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ start multiple instances of it, one for each thread your cpu can handle ( i7 needs 8 ). get at least 200% coverage. this is gona take a couple hours so best do it at night. if it hasnt reported any errors by then your memory is 100% stable.
after that check your cpu stability with linX, give it near max memory and let it run for a couple of hours, might wanna monitor monitor your cpu temps a bit after u turn it on, generally doesnt get much hotter after 10 mins. coretemp is a good tool to do that >75 deg. celcius you need new cooling, >90 turn linX off and go get new cpu cooling imediatly
this is just general system stability testing though, 100things can cause bluescreens, like faulty drivers, system infections etc

If you are indeed using a Creatiev soundcard, that could very well be the issue. The Creative 64 bit driver is junk and can cause BSOD's in memory intensive programs like VG. If that is the case try changing the sound in VG to generic software that might eliminate the BSOD's.

I ran Vanguard with a XFi card from the cards release to about 2 wks ago, now I still use an XFi but its softwar emulated on my Maximus V Gene.
Please stop parroting misinformation. VG has a serious issue with EAX and XRAM enabled cards due to its own crappy underlying audio engine that shipped with unreal 2.0. Vanguard is the ONLY game I have played since ownership of the card that I had any serious issue with.
If indeed its audio (which I doubt, its usually a sudden upon game loading) simply change audio to generic software.
over heating can be a real issue, but VG really is a 99% one threaded game and rarely over heats a CPU, but run prime95 to test cooling. You will know in a real hurry if you do have cooling issues. LinX is the app of choice for the newer crowd, but its not as good as Prime95 for a stability test in my opinion. My last board ran LinX stable but failed on prime95, so I could not get a replacement board, even though it crashed often and couldnt run my 2nd gen i7 with HT enabled. But new board, prime95 is stable and HT enabled, with 4.2GHz OC (same CPU). The tried tested and true.
The above tests are good places to start, as is updating all your drivers and reinstalling Dx9.

I would really appreciate if you didn't call me a liar when I am simply stating facts. Good to hear that your Creative X-FI is working with VG without issues, but others are not so blessed. I didn't say it can't work, but I am saying if you are indeed getting BSOD's and having 64-bit windows and a Creative card chances are high it is sound related, simply because the Creative 64-bit drivers is not very good.
For recent BSOD issues with Creative cards you can check the 'blue screen of death' thread by Dorotea in the general Tech forum. Dorotea has a Creative card and was getting BSOD's which was fixed by turning sound off in VG. In that case turning sound to generic did not fix the BSOD, but disabling the sound in VG did fix it. So in Doroteas case the only real fix is to replace the Creative card wih a non Creative card.
Another issue I know of is one I had myself a few years back, which is why I am positive the Creative drivers are bad. They might be better nowadays, but I am not convinced. I used to have Creative X-FI too, which I used for years in VG while I still had windows XP 32-bit, and with 32-bit windows it worked flawless. However once I got windows 7 64-bit I started getting BSOD's in VG and other programs. If I for example played VG and stayed in New Targonor for more than 1 hour I was guaranteed to get a BSOD. I ended up replacing the X-FI with a HT Omega card, and guess what. I have had zero BSOD's since then. So yea there it was the Creative drivers fault too.
So yea the creative 64-bit drivers are bad even if you got yours to work without problems. So in no way am I spreading misinformation.
