Just wanted to let everyone know that the Code team is around and pretty busy! The last couple updates have only been content, but that doesn't mean we haven't been hard at work on the next features and fixes. We just completed a feature that took a couple weeks to finish and is currently in testing. I can't talk much about the details of the feature just yet, but it should be announced in January and launched sometime early Feb. Besides the bugs that we are continually fixing, we are taking some time to completely rewrite core systems. One such core system is the network layer. Unfortunately, the Unreal network layer was not designed to support the kind of stress that an MMO can deal out, and so we are working on replacing it with a proven system that we use in all of our newer games such as PlanetSide2. Some of you are probably thinking, "Holy crap, that is a huge change!”, and I'd respond to that with, "Yes it is!". What will this new network layer fix you might ask? First, before it fixes anything, this system will provide much more insight on what is happening between server to server and server to client communication. Second, it will most likely fix issues with packetloss, zoning disconnects, and “lag” associated with raiding. If not, I will atleast have the latest tools and information to fix the issue once and for all. With a change this big, we will need extra testing time and help on our Test server. This is one of those changes that will probably work great on our internal environments, but once under some stress, will show some cracks. So look for a call out to visit our Test Server early next year! Hobart
I'm glad to hear there is a "code team". I always imagined it was you, your trained monkey and a couple cases of red bull. Seriously though, this is exciting news. Thanks for the update.
Great News Hobart. New feature you say....hmmm I am going to guess (Hobart you don't have to confirm or deny) and say it's the SOEmote feature. Don't worry I won't tell anyone else. Ssssshhhhhh
Hobart, will these code updates actually help out with the Crash to Desktops that have been plauging this game since day 1?
I dont CTD myself. However, I do know some of my guildies do have this issue. It would be great to never have to worry about that problem again tho =). -Jaz
id like to say thank you and add that there are far more of us out there who know you are all working hard and doing your best with someone else's mess. we like that. its encouraging. we support you and hope you are at least in some small measure aware of it.
I would have never imagined so much effort going into this game at this point in it's life cycle. Very good to hear and I am glad I made the decision back in January to "give the game a go" again. If I could mail all of you some "Thank you" beers, I would!
Holy **** thats a huge change!!! Awesome work team, very happy to hear that. No one here who opinion matters thinks for on eminute coders sit on their duffs all day.....OK...Well I guess they kinda do, but we all know your worken hard in behind the scenes maken everything happen we see in game. Lookin forward to this update when its ready for us to enjoy.
I really hope this works. One of the thigns i remember from launch was how the game had no uniform coding which caused massive problems and has hindered the game since day one. Please o Please let this work.
