Monk Weapons

  1. I know monks can use martial swords, but I was wondering if they can realistically use them exclusively up to and including endgame.

There are options for them right up until end-game, and even some raid drops if I recal. But realistically? No. Your Epic is going to be two one-handed weapons only.
As much as I adore Martial Swords and the style of them, they end up being pretty gimped out as you advance through levels.
I use hand-wraps and such with my Monk, but on my Disciple I used Martial Swords up until my fourties when I couldn't find a replacement for my Arena Coin weapon and had to go to a Martial Staff.

Windblades come in at about 25% less weapon damage then bladestaves or knuckles, due to their parry bonus modifier. If you think dealing 25% less damage then other monks is realistic, then yes, you can. If you do not think that's a tolerable dps less, then no.
  4. So I should just keep my DK for 2h sword.
  5. about the only time that i see monks using a martial sword is when they are going to be taking hits and not trying to do much damage. basically for the parry bonus from equiping. if you want a class that uses a two handed sword the dk is your best option, especially since most of the animations for the martial sword use a one handed grip.

Using a 2h wep while playing a monk is not a bad thing to me. I use a 2h staff on my monk, threw my epics off to the side like some forgotten crappy relic, and I don't feel worse off for it. The way the game is currently setup with auto attacks not continuing after using an ability, there really is very little benefit to high dps, low dmg weapons, ie fast weapons. Whether you use 1h's or a 2h, the dps of the weapon is almost irrelevant compared to the base damage of the weapon(s). I would almost always advocate the slowest possible weapons equippable, but that is my opinion.
In terms of martial sword viabilty, it doesn't seem like a viable solution at end game type levels because you get such a strong diminishing return on parry after a while. I buffed up, went in defensive stance, hit reed in the wind, put on a martial sword and my total avoidance changed by less than 5% from a wep that should have given triple that. It seems reasonably useful at lower levels, especially before you learn reed in the wind.
