Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is one of the most vast, complex, and beautiful MMORPGs around. It would be remiss to say there are only three things to cross off your bucket list, but we’re going to keep it short and sweet. We spoke to former players and devs about the top three things they think every player should try to accomplish before the game’s sunset in late July.

    1. Visit the Capital Cities
Scope out Ahgram, Khal, Tanvu, and New Targanor. Of course there are many others that we will miss like Leth Nurae, Bordinar's Cleft, Rindol Field, Ca'ial Brael, Qur'xa, etc. While you're there, take as many screenshots as your computer can hold. These are serious works of art!

Want to find out more about Telon’s capital cities? Visit the Settlements page on the official Vanguard wikia.

    2. Crafting
By far, one of the best parts about Vanguard is its incredibly in-depth crafting system. This is one of the only games in existence where you can actually make a boat! And it's not just about making an exquisite item; it's about the process in getting there. So pick up artificing, blacksmithing, or outfitting, and find something to specialize in to make it your own.

For assistance with crafting, visit the Crafting page on the Vanguard wikia.

    3. Explore the Whole Map
@DM_Ocampo on Twitter suggests, "explore the whole map..." We definitely agree! The world is huge, though. So get your character some high quality boots!

For more on the expansive world of Telon, visit the Maps page on the Vanguard wikia.

You still have over three months left to enjoy the magnificent world of Telon. The game officially sunsets on July 31, 2014. Get out there and make it count! And while you're at it, record your memories on the official Vanguard wikia! Looking for some help accomplishing your goals? Let other dedicated Vanguard players help you out here.

Maybe you need to learn more about vanguards capital cities such as the fact that you can't get to Qur'xa without falling through the world or exploiting other geometry bugs to get inside.

And Mekalia has been closed for ages and it ports you outside so can't even use bugs to get inside...

Too many peoples bucket list items won't be achieved at this point because they were rare items off the high end raid mobs (or for some people to just get a chance to kill the high end raid mobs), and unless the gm's/devs want to show up to the open raids and give players some sort of temporary boosts to offset the fact that the population isn't there anymore those mobs aren't very likely to die again.

Aren't capital cities, Khal, Ahgram, New Targanor and Tanvu? I guess 25% accuracy is close enough.

The hate is strong in this thread.

From what I heard, the code of this game is held together with gum and duct tape, and would have to be rewritten from the ground up for the current devs to be able to handle changes of the game without breaking something else.

This is a business after all.

Since it seems to be generally agreed that "Vanguard Saga of Heroes is one of the most vast, complex, and beautiful MMORPGs around", what would happen if Sony decided to fix all (or most of) the bugs, make all the dungeons playable, resolve all discrepancies, and just generally implement all the features which have been most asked-for over the years? Vanguard is really for grownups and mature youths who do not need or want to be spoonfed every step of the way, it is not for the type of entitled, immature players who have made another game whose name I will not mention so "popular". So anyway, I do wonder, would Vanguard suddenly be inundated with hundreds of thousands of grateful and appreciative players if someone at Sony were allowed to put their heart and soul into bringing this creative and unique masterpiece to perfection? It really seems to me that if this game were given the love and care it deserves, the effects would be very noticeable and word would travel quickly through the gaming world; I may be naïve but I truly believe that under those circumstance people would be thronging back to Vanguard, and isn't that good business? Well, I can't help wondering and wishing.

    Well said!

Since the announcement to pull the plug I rage quit. Several months later I've downloaded many Fantasy MMOs and for me, nothing has come close in terms of atmosphere, absorption and gameplay. Everything else so far is sugar coated with fluff and voiceovers.

If anyone finds a game that comes close to VG please let me know.

C’mon you all, get a grip. Yaviey didn’t have anything to do with sunsetting Vanguard, and there is nothing she can do to keep it from happening. She just drew the short straw and was assigned here, so you really need to give her a break. We all need to keep our jobs and put food on the table, even when we are assigned to projects we rather not have to do. Having her attempts to make the best from a horrible situation thrown back in her face reflects badly on you all.

If you think I am not equally torqued-off that Vanguard will go away forever, you would be wrong. I have spent a huge percentage of my life for a full seven years in the world of Telon, and when I think about it blinking off for the last time, the feeling I get is very much like the death of an old friend. I think this exchange in Unforgiven (edited by me) says it best:

The Schofield Kid: It don't seem real... how it ain't gonna never load again, ever... how it's dead. And others too. All on account of pulling a plug.
Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a world. Take away all it's got and all it's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess Telon had it coming.
Will Munny: They all got it coming, kid.

Yeah, “It don’t seem real” sums it up for me.

I haven’t been in the game much for quite a while. I allowed myself to become far too emotionally attached to this game. I had already begun the process of detachment several months before this was announced, but I felt it was coming even back then. Of course, I did not know when, only that it was inevitable. That it was coming. The botched F2P launch and the travesty that was the launch of Old Targonor sealed this game’s fate long before the Cave of Blunders, Best Buff Only, and new gear system confirmed and hastened the process. I will only hold responsible those who had the ability to make a difference, and that does not include Yaviey.

As far as calling for Vanguard to be saved, that ship has long since sailed. Vanguard will end, and I can only recommend finding a way to deal with it. I hope you can find a way that does not include being abusive to someone who has zero control over the situation. You’re kicking the nurse because she cannot cure the cancer.

    Regards,

    Schiller

Like an old girlfriend, the pictures and memories go into the trash...no matter how beautiful she was. Dust in the wind. Like the memory of my money for sony.....lost.

Ok so let's see... 7 years to fix a game. That's a very long time. The duct tape and glue should have been replaced with any sincere effort to fix the game. Look at all the other games sunsetting that never had these issues also. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of pride or sincere effort to fix anything. I think most of these "glue and tape" comments could have gotten by with a majority of players sympathizing in the past, but we have a shining example now to reference. It's called Final Fantasy XIV. That game was really horrible, perhaps on the very same level as Vanguard in terms of playability and bugs. However, Square Enix took it upon themselves to realize a franchise and perhaps their company's existence on the MMO playing field were in dire jeopardy (which it was) and decided that they had a responsibility to repair the game, re-write a great deal of it, fix the issues the game had, both in coding and playability and most of all, listen to feedback. Now with the re-launch of the game, they have surpassed 2 million active players, whereas the first iteration of the game had less than 50k or so when it was taken offline, and very briefly. I think this was an issue moreover of a larger company that really does see more numbers, and also along with that knowing they would not suffer any by letting this game go, and decided to be too complacent. It's not all about numbers, and we can't always use that "business" excuse. It's a new world, a lot of people have been burned by that word in many ways. This game is truly done, but only because of giving up. Sorry, it can be done, and it's been proven.

    Greeting from Russia!
I've used many MMORPG, but Vanguard SoH is better of them.
What about Vanguard 2? :) Without bugs, with PvP and russian language? :)
    Good luck!
